Merchant-side experience is essential; issuer exposure is an advantage. - Fluency in both one-time payments and recurring billing, including authorization holds, delayed capture, settlement, dunning, retry strategy, network tokens, account updater, credential-on-file, MIT vs. CIT handling, and involuntary churn drivers. Depth in one model with credible working knowledge of the other is acceptable. - Track record of shipping global, cross-functional payments initiatives from requirements through launch and stabilization. - Strong product craft: clear requirement writing, defensible prioritization decisions, disciplined scope management. - Payments engineering and data fluency sufficient to direct technical work, interrogate estimates, and engage credibly with senior engineers on architecture. - Market entry experience: ability to launch payments in unfamiliar markets and get up to speed quickly. - Ability to lead without formal authority in matrixed environments, with judgment on when to escalate. - Executive communication skills: present complex payments topics concisely and drive clear decisions. - Resourceful and self-directed: prioritize shifting workloads in fast-moving, ambiguous environments. BONUS: - Direct payments experience in APAC, EEA, or LATAM, particularly in markets where card-first strategy is not optimal. - Experience in high-volume consumer businesses with marketplace, travel, or e-commerce payment flows. - Exposure to disputes and chargeback data informing routing and processor strategy.
