Base Power is rebuilding America's electrical grid through distributed battery systems. As Senior Manager of Field Quality, you will lead the team responsible for fleet health monitoring, return analysis, root cause investigation, and driving fixes into design and supply chain. You own the feedback loop that translates real-world field failures into engineering improvements.
Key responsibilities include: owning fleet return rates and setting accountability targets; building and developing a team of field quality, failure analysis, and test engineers as the fleet scales from thousands to hundreds of thousands of units; driving root cause investigations from field signal through RMA triage, teardown, failure recreation, corrective action, and fleet verification; making critical field decisions (swaps, pulls, firmware mitigations, retrofit campaigns); translating field data into design changes with evidence; building dashboards and failure taxonomies to identify true failure trends; partnering with suppliers on 8D/CAPA and performance scorecards; establishing a failure analysis lab with tools and methods to recreate and verify fixes; and managing cost of poor quality metrics including warranty spend and scrap.
You will need a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Physics, or related field, plus 4+ years in field quality, failure analysis, or design engineering with 3+ years leading engineers. Required experience includes managing deployed hardware at scale, strong fundamentals in electronics, battery systems, thermal systems, or complex electromechanical systems, triage instinct for prioritizing failures, and comfort with Grafana, SQL/BigQuery, and Python. You should have experience driving supplier corrective actions and making high-stakes field decisions under uncertainty. Preferred qualifications include battery energy storage systems experience, scaling field quality functions in fast-growing fleets, safety-critical hardware and compliance background, and hands-on failure analysis skills (cross-sectioning, X-ray, thermal imaging).
