Salary: EUR 3,330 - 6,660 / monthly
KAYAK, part of Booking Holdings, is a leading global travel search engine processing billions of queries across multiple platforms (including momondo, Cheapflights, and HotelsCombined). The company integrates with over 200 travel partners and links to 500,000+ hotels and 550 airlines, serving millions of users daily.
You will join the Search team as a Senior Java backend engineer, responsible for designing and maintaining scalable backend search capabilities that prioritize speed, reliability, relevance, and user experience. This is a technical leadership role where you will own complex solutions from architecture through operational support, guide architecture discussions, and maintain high engineering standards across the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and maintain scalable backend search infrastructure
- Own end-to-end technical solutions from design through production support
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on architecture decisions
- Collaborate with commercial, data, and engineering teams on robust technical solutions
- Resolve production issues, improve system reliability, and reduce technical debt
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to improvements in testing, observability, CI/CD, and development practices
This role requires working from the Kaunas office at least 3 days per week. You will have flexibility to work remotely up to 20 days per year.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 7+ years of professional experience with the Java ecosystem and Spring Framework (Boot, Security)
- Expertise in designing high-throughput data environments using PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis
- Fluent English communication skills
- Previous experience with AI/LLM is a plus
- Exposure to Elasticsearch or similar search technologies is a bonus skill
