Tutor Intelligence is building general-purpose, intelligent robots for deployment in factories, logistics, and eventually homes. As an AI robotics company that deploys directly into customer facilities on state-of-the-art hardware, the company operates at the intersection of cutting-edge research and real-world deployment.
You will be the first dedicated IT and security engineer at Tutor, owning all shared infrastructure and security programs. This is a high-impact ownership role with both planned work (infrastructure modernization, compliance) and interrupt-driven responsibilities (outages, security incidents).
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the office network, encrypted mesh network connecting field robots, and customer site integrations (VLANs, firewalls, egress policy, certificates, documentation)
- Working directly with customer IT and security teams on questionnaires, vendor risk reviews, and network design reviews
- Owning the SOC 2 certification program: maintaining controls, automating evidence collection, updating policies, and managing annual audits
- Managing security incident response and vulnerability management: triage, remediation, disclosure, and stakeholder communication
- Running corporate IT through policy and automation: identity/SSO, device management, access reviews, onboarding/offboarding
- Establishing incident response workflows to route outages and security reports to the right engineer within one hour
- Reviewing all changes to shared infrastructure (code and configuration touching secrets, access, or network)
A significant portion of this role involves directing AI coding agents (like Claude Code) to audit configurations, collect compliance evidence, triage alerts, and execute multi-step infrastructure tasks. You'll need to scope work effectively for agents, critically review their output, and build tooling that agents can use.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years in networking and security at a company with production systems; hands-on ownership of networks and security posture (not advisory roles)
- Strong Linux networking fundamentals: routing, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, overlay networks (WireGuard), DNS, DHCP, PKI; ability to debug site-to-site connectivity issues from shell access
- Experience running a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 program through at least one full audit cycle (controls, evidence, policies, auditor interactions)
- Experience working with enterprise IT and security teams: completing security questionnaires and defending network designs to customer infrastructure teams
- Identity and device management: SAML/OIDC SSO, identity provider administration, MDM, regular access reviews
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Python, or similar); versioned and reviewed configuration
- Hands-on experience with AI coding agents (Claude Code or similar) for real engineering work; understanding of failure modes and when to trust vs. verify
- Ability to remain steady under interrupts: clear communication during outages, problem resolution, and incident writeups

- Operational technology or plant-floor networks (PLCs, cell networks, industrial protocols)
- NixOS or declarative, reproducible systems stacks
- Cloud and Kubernetes security (IAM, secrets, cluster hardening on AWS/Azure)
- Compliance automation platforms (Vanta)
- Experience as a security lead or first security hire
- Physical security and access control
