Salary: USD 145,000 - 160,000 / annual
The Athletic is a sports media company powered by a newsroom of 500+ full-time staff, delivering in-depth coverage of hundreds of professional and college teams across 47+ North American markets and English Premier League clubs.
You will own key aspects of The Athletic's native iOS application and contribute to core features and architecture. This is an opportunity to build beautiful, polished user experiences while architecting elegant, maintainable code. The team prioritizes fast iteration without compromising quality and values engineers who stay current with Apple's best practices and latest features.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with Design and Product teams to build performant, well-engineered UI
- Architecting the app to optimize for performance, growth, scalability, and code quality
- Writing unit and functional tests to ensure maximum code and app quality
- Investigating, debugging, and fixing user-reported production issues
- Brainstorming new product ideas and improvements with cross-functional teams
- Refactoring existing code to improve developer experience
- Working within a highly collaborative team and suggesting process improvements

Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience with native iOS development in Swift
- Consumer-facing product and design instincts with a desire to influence product decisions
- Preferred: experience with GraphQL, SwiftUI, and Combine
- Preferred: experience in early-stage startups working on growth and scale challenges
- Passion for sports and media is helpful but not required
