Salary: USD 186,000 - 202,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Senior Instrument Technical Program Manager to own end-to-end delivery of state-of-the-art electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) remote sensing instruments. This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, hardware engineering, and mission management, requiring a "Total Ownership" mentality to drive integrated master schedules, budgets, and risk posture from concept through environmental testing and flight delivery.
Key responsibilities include owning the integrated master schedule, budget, and risk register for EO/IR instruments; partnering with the Instrument Systems Engineer to translate technical architectures and interface control documents into logic-linked execution plans; serving as the primary programmatic interface to Mission and Spacecraft TPMs for seamless vehicle integration; synchronizing internal instrument resources and coordinating with hardware engineering for optical/optomechanical staffing; managing external vendors and critical component suppliers; and identifying bottlenecks to force decisions while leading root cause analyses on hardware anomalies.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. with 3+ years developing imaging/infrared remote sensing instruments, or M.S. with 6+ years, or B.S. with 8+ years industry experience, with at least 3+ years in technical program management or engineering leadership. Direct technical experience with LEO EO/IR remote sensing instruments, including sensor architectures, focal plane arrays, and integrated dewar cooler assemblies. Expert proficiency in program management tools (Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet) with ability to build logic-linked schedules and critical path analyses. Familiarity with structured root cause analysis methodologies in high-performance hardware environments. Exceptional communication, organization, and presentation skills for fast-paced startup environment. Ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance strongly preferred.
Nice-to-have skills include hands-on experience with precision optical assembly, alignment, cleanroom operations, and space environmental testing (TVAC, random vibration); scripting or database languages (Python, Julia, SQL) for program data integration; and PMP certification or equivalent credentials.
