Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. The company controls every component of hardware design, manufacturing, data processing, and software engineering.
The Senior Infrastructure Solutions Engineer role sits within the Infrastructure Solutions team, a small multi-disciplinary group that makes Planet's infrastructure easier to use. This team bridges platform builders and platform consumers across all engineering teams at Planet. The role is driven by "unreasonable hospitality"—delivering disproportionate value—and backed by solid engineering and operational depth.
You will own end-to-end technical engagements with engineering teams who are blocked, mid-migration, or arriving on the platform for the first time. Most work involves hands-on diagnosis and resolution of complex infrastructure challenges, developing reference implementations and tooling, and creating durable artifacts that prevent other teams from hitting the same walls. You will lead critical migrations, accelerate platform adoption for new teams, establish standardized infrastructure paths, build scalable shared artifacts (Terraform modules, Helm charts, libraries), enhance platform observability, and inform broader infrastructure strategy by synthesizing engineering feedback.
Key responsibilities include partnering directly with engineering teams to diagnose and unblock infrastructure challenges, executing critical migrations with reference implementations and guidance, acting as the primary technical contact for new team onboarding, consolidating disparate solutions into well-supported offerings, designing reusable infrastructure components, implementing instrumentation and attribution tooling for cost and usage visibility, and influencing the infrastructure roadmap based on common pain points.
The ideal candidate is energized by other teams' success, prefers shipping things that make ten teams faster over owning a system outright, and does their best work in rooms they don't own with people not yet convinced they need help. You have run things in production and write code other engineers depend on.
This is a full-time, remote position based in Germany, the Netherlands, or Slovenia. If located near a Planet office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week.

- Hands-on experience operating and maintaining production infrastructure environments
- Deep expertise with Kubernetes orchestration, including workload optimization and operations

- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD) and CI/CD pipelines
- Proficiency in software development using Go or Python
- Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into structured, actionable engineering tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration
**Nice-to-have:**
- Experience with large-scale block storage (Persistent Disk, Hyperdisk, Ceph, SAN, or equivalent) at fleet scale
- Experience driving large-scale migrations or deprecations requiring buy-in from teams outside your reporting line
- Consulting-adjacent engineering role experience (solutions architecture, professional services, technical account engineering) applied to internal platforms
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration (e.g., Temporal), batch and job-execution systems, or large-scale data processing pipelines
- Experience defining and measuring platform adoption (developer-productivity instrumentation, NPS, internal marketshare)
