Salary: USD 146,000 - 194,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Industrial Engineer to join the Manufacturing Technology Maritime Team in Santa Ana, California. This team is building next-generation AI-driven factories to manufacture large-scale autonomous maritime systems at unprecedented speed and scale.
In this role, you will develop and maintain discrete event simulation models and critical chain schedules that drive production planning for Anduril's advanced AI factory. You will use simulation and modeling tools to visualize production systems, identify bottlenecks, and optimize resource allocation—translating analytical insights into actionable production control decisions. You will also integrate technology into daily workflows by writing scripts and building automated processes that increase the team's throughput and decision speed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing plant and equipment layouts, material flow paths, and space allocation for a new maritime factory
- Developing capacity plans and rate models (units per year under given configurations) with sensitivity analysis
- Sequencing operations and workflows: breaking builds into stations, determining parallel processes, and optimizing unit positioning and dwell times
- Building and validating discrete-event simulation models of the factory and production line as the primary validation method before physical construction
- Designing and optimizing the overall production system by integrating design, supply base, facilities, equipment, and personnel considerations
- Working directly with manufacturing teams to implement process improvements based on simulation and analytical results
This is a hands-on role for someone with strong Operations Research fundamentals eager to apply simulation, optimization, and scripting to real manufacturing problems at scale.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years designing production systems, factory layouts, or manufacturing lines for large, complex, low-rate products (ships, aircraft, spacecraft, heavy industrial, or similar)
- Demonstrated capacity or rate modeling experience: you have built models, defended the numbers, and been held accountable to them
- Ability to work directly with manufacturing teams to implement process improvements based on simulation and analytical results
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
- No specific degree required; Anduril hires on demonstrated capability. Apprenticeship, Navy Nuclear Power School, military experience, trade background, or self-taught modeling all count.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, operations research, manufacturing engineering, systems engineering, or related technical field
- Shipyard or aerospace final-assembly experience (stage of construction, module breakdown, pre-outfitting, erection sequence)
- Greenfield or major-expansion factory work
