Q-CTRL is a quantum control infrastructure software company that has raised $113M in Series B funding and delivered the first commercial quantum advantage with Ironstone Opal, a field-validated quantum navigation solution for defense and industry. The Sensing Engineering team transforms quantum research into deployable technologies, designing and field-validating quantum sensors that support real-world applications. You will own the mechanical and electrical integration of Q-CTRL sensors and auxiliary hardware onto UAS (unmanned aerial systems) platforms, preparing them for lab, field, and flight deployment. Working closely with systems, software, and hardware engineers across the US and globally, you'll integrate, bring up, debug, and modify systems across mechanical and electrical domains. As platforms mature, you'll help improve integration practices, documentation, and repeatability while supporting defense and aerospace programs at the intersection of hardware, software, and field operations. Key responsibilities include: - Own mechanical and electrical integration of sensors and auxiliary hardware onto UAS platforms, delivering flight-ready systems - Develop and implement integration-specific mechanical and electrical components (brackets, fixtures, cabling, interface hardware) - Build and bring-up integrated hardware systems; execute bench, environmental, and functional testing - Collaborate with systems and software engineers to implement defined interfaces and ensure subsystems operate reliably - Plan and document integration builds, test configurations, results, and anomalies for traceability and repeatability - Liaise with suppliers and support procurement for prototype builds - Support field testing and flight operations, including intermittent domestic and international travel - Maintain equipment, consumables, and safe laboratory practices This role does not require a quantum background; strong engineering fundamentals, product mindset, and drive to solve hard engineering problems are valued. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field - Proven hands-on experience integrating complex electro-mechanical systems in aerospace, UAS, robotics, or advanced R&D environments - Strong practical skills in prototype assembly, wiring, harness fabrication, electro-mechanical build and rework - Experience developing mechanical and electrical components using CAD tools - Proficiency with tools, testing, measurement equipment, fabrication, and rapid prototyping - Experience collaborating with systems and software teams on integration requirements - Comfort working autonomously in lab and field environments to support flight testing - Familiarity with documentation, configuration management, and quality practices supporting reproducible builds - Exposure to low-level embedded software or driver development is advantageous but not essential - Experience supporting field trials or flight testing is highly desirable - Must be a U.S. person as defined in 22 CFR §120.62 (ITAR compliance requirement)
