SumUp's Localization team builds and owns the systems that enable merchants across 38 markets to understand and use products in their own language. This role is critical to SumUp's global growth and market expansion.
As Senior Fullstack Engineer, you will bring dedicated engineering ownership to scope, build, and ship systems, integrations, and tooling that accelerate the localization platform toward greater automation, scalability, and end-to-end integration. You'll have autonomy and meaningful scope to shape a growing function.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, build, and optimize localization solutions across product, CMS, CRM, marketing, and design systems to accelerate content delivery without compromising quality
- Improve the localization management platform to increase visibility and control while reducing manual steps
- Embed automated language and quality checks into localization workflows to catch issues before production
- Enhance the experience for developers, designers, marketers, and content teams by ensuring localization solutions support their processes
- Partner with Web, Mobile, Website, Comms Platform, and other technical teams to enable localization capabilities across the technology stack
- Explore how AI and language technology can strengthen and future-proof the localization stack while meeting evolving compliance requirements
You'll work in an office-first setup in Berlin with a global team of 3,000+ SumUppers from 90+ nationalities. SumUp serves over 4 million businesses across 38 markets, providing payment, finance, and customer relationship tools.
Requirements:
- Strong background in backend engineering, ideally with Go (or Python, Rust, C++)
- Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs in microservices or distributed systems environments
- Working knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL and event streaming tools such as Kafka
- Ability to translate priorities from non-technical stakeholders into scoped, shippable engineering work
- Ability to operate independently across fragmented, distributed system landscapes, working within architecture owned by other teams
- Exposure to frontend frameworks such as React and languages like TypeScript
- Experience with translation management systems (TMS) or localization of web/mobile applications and content platforms (preferred)
