PayStand is a blockchain-enabled B2B payments network recognized as a CNBC/Statista 2026 World's Top Fintech company. The company has processed over $20 billion in volume across more than one million payors and operates a full-stack platform including agentic AI, a USDb stablecoin, and AR/AP solutions.
You will architect and implement user-facing components of PayStand's open banking network, collaborating closely with product owners, designers, and fellow engineers. This is a senior individual contributor role with mentorship and technical leadership responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead architecture and implementation of user-facing systems
- Design reusable libraries and frameworks for complex web applications
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers
- Collaborate across product, design, and engineering to build high-quality user experiences
- Ensure best practices in code quality, security, and performance
- Participate in all phases of the development lifecycle: analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation
- Advocate for continuous improvement in development processes
PayStand emphasizes AI-first engineering. You are expected to leverage AI-powered coding assistants, architect systems with AI integration in mind, automate manual workflows using AI tools, and drive technical innovation by integrating the latest AI development frameworks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of independently delivering meaningful products or major capabilities from concept through production
- Strong full-stack capability across frontend, backend, data, infrastructure, and integrations
- Ability to move from ambiguous business problems to practical solutions: clarify problems, evaluate tradeoffs, establish architecture, build, deploy, and improve using production feedback
- Comfortable making progress without fully prescribed specifications while knowing when alignment or broader architectural review is needed
- Fluency with AI-assisted and agent-led software development using Claude, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or comparable platforms
- Experience using AI throughout the engineering lifecycle: discovery, architecture, implementation planning, testing, debugging, documentation, code review, operational analysis
- Ability to provide agents with effective context, decompose work into verifiable tasks, evaluate generated solutions critically, and maintain responsibility for correctness, security, maintainability
- Practical understanding of building AI-enabled product capabilities using model APIs, structured outputs, tool calling, retrieval, evaluations, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop workflows
- Strong engineering judgment about where AI increases leverage versus where deterministic software or direct human review is more appropriate
- Strong understanding of modern application architecture: modular design, API design, asynchronous/event-driven processing, data consistency, caching, integration patterns
- Demonstrated ability to design systems that evolve and scale without unnecessary complexity
- Experience making and documenting architectural decisions based on reliability, security, performance, cost, maintainability, and speed of delivery
- Practical experience with relational databases, data modeling, distributed systems, observability, automated testing, and production troubleshooting
- Familiarity with secure engineering practices for financial systems: authorization, data protection, auditability, failure recovery, idempotent processing
- Strong experience with at least one modern frontend ecosystem (React, Next.js, Vue, Angular) including component architecture, state management, accessibility, performance, responsive design
- Strong experience with at least one production backend ecosystem (Node.js/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, Elixir, or comparable)
- Ability to design clear APIs and data contracts; integrate with internal services, third-party platforms, legacy systems
- Product-minded approach to frontend development: attention to workflows, usability, edge cases, complete customer experience
- Willingness and ability to learn unfamiliar frameworks when appropriate for the product
- Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating production systems on AWS or Google Cloud
- Working knowledge of Cloudflare capabilities (DNS, CDN, edge security, traffic management, Workers, edge infrastructure)
- Experience with containers, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, environment management, secrets management, automated deployment
- Understanding of horizontal scaling, load management, queues, caching, database scaling, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, multi-region considerations
- Ability to build useful observability through logs, metrics, traces, alerts, business-level workflow monitoring
- Comfortable owning software after release: production health, incident response, root-cause analysis, continuous improvement
- Product mindset with ability to co-own a product area alongside a product manager
- Able to challenge assumptions, identify simpler solutions, define incremental releases, balance immediate customer value with long-term technical health
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical decisions and tradeoffs to engineering, product, design, operations, and business stakeholders
- Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture, execution, code review, mentorship, raising engineering standards
- High degree of ownership, curiosity, pragmatism, and follow-through
BONUS SKILLS:
- Experience building payment, fintech, accounting, ERP, banking, or transaction-intensive products
- Experience with high-integrity workflows involving money movement, reconciliation, ledgers, approvals, external financial integrations
- Experience building or operating AI agents and agentic workflows in production
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration, event streaming, or durable execution technologies
- Experience with blockchain, digital assets, smart contracts, or decentralized systems
- Contributions to open-source software or technical communities
