SimilarWeb is seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer with strong backend orientation (80% backend, 20% frontend) to join their AI-powered product development team. In this role, you will design and build scalable backend services using NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) and/or Python, owning API design, contracts, and versioning across services. You'll design and optimize data models, database schemas, and query performance while implementing authentication, authorization, and secure API integration patterns. Key responsibilities include building reliable data-fetching layers, caching strategies, and async processing systems (queues, jobs, events), leading backend technical decisions and code quality standards, and ensuring system scalability, fault tolerance, and observability through logging, monitoring, and alerting.
You will collaborate closely with product, design, frontend, and data/AI teams to translate product requirements into robust technical solutions. This includes partnering with frontend engineers on React/TypeScript applications, aligning on data shapes and performance constraints, and conducting high-quality code reviews. You'll contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices, improve testing and system reliability, and leverage AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) effectively in daily development work, critically evaluating and refining AI-generated code for backend logic and data integrity.

**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of full stack or backend engineering experience with strong backend focus (80%) — Must have
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS; Python proficiency also welcome or equivalent backend framework — Must have
- Solid working proficiency in React and modern frontend fundamentals (HTML, CSS)
- Experience designing scalable backend architectures and data models
- Deep understanding of API design, authentication flows, and distributed system tradeoffs
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including query optimization
- Strong understanding of system performance, reliability, and security best practices
- Experience with testing methodologies (unit, integration, E2E) and observability tooling
- Hands-on experience using AI development tools in daily workflows with ability to validate, debug, and improve AI-generated code
- Understanding of prompt engineering for engineering workflows
- Strong product and technical intuition with excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Nice to have: experience with data platforms, analytics products, BI tools, large-scale data processing, streaming/real-time data patterns, or LLM API integration
