Synthesia is the world's leading AI video platform for business, trusted by over 90% of the Fortune 100 and 50,000+ customers including Heineken, Zoom, Xerox, and McDonald's. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in London, the company has raised over $530 million from premier investors including Accel, Nvidia Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, and GV, achieving a $4 billion valuation following a recent $200 million Series E round. Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) sit at the intersection of engineering and customer impact. This is not a traditional product engineering role—it's built for engineers who want their work to directly shape outcomes for Synthesia's most strategic customers and partners, often within days rather than sprints. You will be embedded in high-value customer engagements, working alongside Sales, Solutions, and Customer Success teams to design, build, and ship bespoke technical solutions that unlock use cases no off-the-shelf feature could address. You'll own the full arc from whiteboard conversations with a customer's CTO through to a working, deployed integration, executing at speed. Key responsibilities include: - Work directly with strategic customers and partners to design and build bespoke technical solutions for high-value use cases - Own the full build cycle for custom engagements: scoping, architecture, and delivery with bias toward speed and impact - Bridge technical and business stakeholders, equally fluent with engineers and senior decision-makers - Translate ambiguous customer requirements into working prototypes and production-grade solutions on tight timelines - Partner with internal product and engineering teams to feed real-world customer needs into the product roadmap - Identify patterns across engagements and help define where bespoke builds should become platform features - Represent Synthesia's technical capabilities confidently in customer meetings, workshops, and discovery sessions Success in the first 12 months means leading three or more end-to-end custom engagements from scoping to deployment, building a reputation as someone who gets things done fast, feeding meaningful insights back to product teams that influence roadmap decisions, becoming comfortable across the full Synthesia platform and API surface, and helping define the playbook for FDE engagements. Synthesia emphasizes a culture of building over talking, hiring smart and kind people, and empowering them to move fast. The company is pioneering advancements in generative AI with world-class AI researchers and engineers, and places AI safety, ethics, and security at the foundation of its mission. REQUIREMENTS: - Experience building and shipping working software end-to-end (form matters less than ownership) - Comfort working across the stack or with APIs and integrations to deliver solutions quickly - Some exposure to customer or commercial contexts (startup, agency, consulting, or side project with real users) - Familiarity with how enterprise customers think about technical integrations and vendor solutions - Experience using AI tools to accelerate your output (expected as part of how you work) - Bias for action: you build before asking permission and ship scrappy prototypes to test hypotheses - Rapid learner who picks up new tools, APIs, and customer contexts quickly - Customer instinct: naturally ask what problem they're actually solving before coding - Commercially aware: understand that speed of delivery is a form of value - Strong communicator: can run technical deep-dives with enterprise architects and explain approaches to CPOs The role explicitly does NOT optimize for mastery of specific languages/frameworks, performance on algorithmic coding challenges, or deep specialization in ML or platform engineering.
