Salary: USD 144,000 - 176,000 / annual
Valar Atomics is redefining clean energy by making advanced nuclear power scalable and factory-made. The company is building high-temperature nuclear systems for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing, with a pilot plant planned in Orangeville, Utah.
As Senior Fire Protection Engineer, you will be the domain expert for all fire protection and life safety systems across Valar's facilities. You'll design, analyze, and implement fire protection systems for reactor buildings and company facilities, working closely with cross-functional engineering teams from concept through production and commissioning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and analysis of fire and life safety systems for facility infrastructure
- Development of building and fire code compliance documents and designs for office and reactor facilities
- Hazardous material analysis for code compliance (chemical classification, inventory management, system design)
- Support for facility construction teams in developing field solutions
- Commissioning support for reactor facility builds
- Fire and life safety code reviews and analyses
- Technical report preparation and presentations
- Review of contractor shop drawing design packages
The role offers significant autonomy and ownership in a high-impact startup environment with direct collaboration with experienced operators and industry leaders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience in the design and construction of fire protection systems
Preferred qualifications:
- Professional Engineer License (P.E.)
- Working knowledge of Building & Fire Codes and NFPA Codes & Standards
- NICET certification in relevant fire protection programs
- OSHA compliance knowledge
- FDS software modeling capabilities
- Construction, facility management, or consulting engineering experience
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit
