Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Equipment Engineer to support facilities maintenance, operations, and improvement projects for the SolAero production facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This role is responsible for managing all building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management to ensure maximum facility availability.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing plans to manage building systems; translating manufacturing, process, and testing requirements into facilities specifications (electrical, network infrastructure, HVAC, fluids); planning and supporting execution of capital projects for facility upgrades and equipment installations; collaborating with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, and subcontractors; developing maintenance policies and procedures; ensuring facilities maintenance work follows safety standards and budget guidelines; applying Lean principles to facilities design; supporting equipment selection and Factory/Site Acceptance Testing; ensuring OSHA and environmental compliance; and troubleshooting technical issues with preventive maintenance and performance monitoring.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace) with 5+ years of manufacturing or facilities engineering experience (specifically HVAC, pneumatics, controls, and steam), or 9+ years of such experience without a degree. Candidates must have facilities and equipment maintenance experience in aerospace, automotive, medical device, or similar heavily regulated manufacturing environments (including cleanroom experience). Demonstrated achievements in planning, directing, and implementing complex projects on time and within budget are essential, along with experience with heavy equipment, large-scale lifting operations, and structural assembly.
Desirable qualifications include a Master's degree in Engineering, occupational health and safety skills, knowledge of emergency management and workplace hygiene, and experience with Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies.
