Impulse is seeking a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to lead EHS initiatives across multiple operational sites, including advanced manufacturing facilities, rocket test sites, and offices. This role is a strategic position that combines hands-on engineering expertise with cross-functional leadership.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing EHS policies, procedures, and solutions to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other regulatory agencies. You will serve as the subject matter expert for environmental matters including air quality, stormwater management, hazardous waste, and industrial wastewater. The role requires performing comprehensive EHS audits and inspections across all facilities to verify regulatory compliance.
You will work directly with engineering teams, facilities, and architectural partners to identify job hazards using tools like Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and PPE assessments. You'll develop risk mitigation solutions including machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and chemical hazard exposure controls. Collaboration with the facilities and architectural teams ensures critical life safety systems—fire protection, hazard communication, and emergency response—meet code requirements and industry best practices.
Additional duties include investigating industrial accidents and injuries to determine root causes and implement corrective actions, ensuring emergency contingency plans (evacuation, fire, spill, first aid) are current and communicated organization-wide, and partnering with HR and Learning & Organizational Development to identify and execute critical EHS training programs.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related field; 5+ years of demonstrated experience in environmental, health & safety disciplines; 5+ years maintaining compliance with water, CEQA, and other state & federal regulations.
