As Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead a cross-functional engineering team while remaining a hands-on technical contributor (approximately 30% of your time spent writing code, reviewing architecture, and shaping technical decisions). You will report to the CTO and partner closely with Product, Operations, and Data to ship mission-critical systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing an engineering team across multiple product domains, owning velocity, process, performance, technical growth, and team culture
- Remaining a consistent technical contributor through production code, design reviews, and pair programming on complex problems
- Defining and enforcing engineering standards across code quality, system design, testing, deployment, and incident response
- Driving an AI-native operating model by identifying where AI agents can accelerate workflows, building evaluation frameworks, and coaching engineers to leverage AI as a primary development tool
- Partnering with Product to refine roadmaps and ensure the team works on highest-leverage problems
- Owning team architecture through build-vs-buy decisions, technical debt management, and stack decisions aligned with business growth
- Contributing to broader engineering culture through interviews, cross-team design reviews, and institutional knowledge-building
The role operates in a small, high-output team building across a complex technical surface: consumer marketplace, provider-facing scheduling, interoperability infrastructure, revenue cycle tooling, and AI-augmented workflows. The company scales leverage through AI-native development practices, tight feedback loops, and engineers who own outcomes.
Requirements:
- Proven experience managing and growing engineering teams in a startup environment, thriving with limited resources, changing priorities, and high individual output expectations
- Genuine AI-native fluency: demonstrated deployment of AI agents in production engineering workflows, understanding of evaluation frameworks, and ability to coach teams to use AI as a primary tool (candidates unable to speak concretely to this will not be competitive)
- Active technical contributor with strong engineering fundamentals: production-quality code in at least one modern backend or full-stack language, ability to lead senior-level system design discussions, and hands-on coding within the past year
- Experience in a scaling healthcare technology company is a strong plus, including familiarity with regulatory environment, interoperability constraints, and healthcare delivery operational complexity
- Strong cross-functional instincts: effective partnership with Product and Operations, ability to negotiate scope without damaging relationships, and skill in representing technical constraints to non-technical audiences
- Track record of growing engineers: ICs on previous teams have been promoted, expanded scope, and credited you with material career development
- High ownership orientation: proactive problem-solving with proposed paths forward, treating team business outcomes as personally owned
