Clumio, part of Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT), is a cloud-native data protection platform trusted by over 100,000 organizations globally. The company combines AI-powered data protection, security, intelligence, and recovery capabilities to help enterprises reduce risks and improve governance.
The Clumio Backend team designs, builds, and operates core backend systems that power the control and management plane of the cloud-native data protection platform. For many customers, data protection is a foundational requirement driven by compliance and security mandates, making recovery performance, cost efficiency, governance, and reliable operation at scale critical differentiators.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a key contributor to backend systems supporting control planes, user-access management, and backup workflows. You will take ownership of features or components, driving them from implementation through production operation, and continuously improve them based on real-world usage and customer feedback. You will design and build backend services, contribute to service design and API development, and make sound technical trade-offs balancing correctness, scalability, cost, and maintainability.
You will spend most of your time writing and reviewing production-quality code, diagnosing and resolving complex backend issues, and participating in on-call and operational responsibilities. You will work closely with Product, QA, customer-facing teams, and other engineering disciplines to clarify requirements, ensure production readiness, and support smooth feature delivery. Through code quality, design contributions, and mentorship of junior engineers, you will help reinforce best practices and strengthen the reliability and scalability of the backend platform.
The role reports to an Engineering Director and emphasizes strong hands-on engineering, ownership of backend components, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable production systems. The backend platform is built on cloud-native architecture with shared services and well-defined interfaces that abstract complexity and enable consistent, reliable, and scalable interactions across the platform.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of features or components from implementation through production operation
- Experience building and operating non-trivial production systems, including diagnosing issues and improving implementations based on real-world behavior
- Ability to translate loosely defined requirements into correct, maintainable technical solutions and make sound trade-offs under uncertainty
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go (preferred), Python, Java, or Rust
- Highly collaborative and self-driven, with strong sense of shared ownership and ability to work effectively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams
Preferred:
- Experience owning a component or subsystem within a larger backend or cloud-native platform
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and common cloud-native design patterns
- Experience with data-intensive systems, object storage, or large-scale backend services
- Exposure to backup, disaster recovery, or data protection systems in production environments
