Somewear is a satellite-enabled communications platform serving world travelers, helicopter paramedics, backcountry explorers, firefighters, and US Special Forces operators. The company recently supported a successful civilian rescue operation 1,200 miles off the US Pacific coast, coordinating rescue personnel, medical teams, aircraft, and operations centers with consistent communications and situational awareness. As a Senior Electrical Engineer based in Chicago, you will lead the design and development of hardware for a platform that saves lives. You will own projects end-to-end, from concept through production, working with custom hardware, satellite technology, Bluetooth, sensors, and third-party integrations. Key responsibilities include: - Lead schematic capture and board layouts for prototypes and new product lines - Lead prototype bring-up and validation testing - Design test fixtures for prototype validation and production test jigs - Collaborate with antenna designers and RF consultants to optimize wireless performance - Work with firmware engineers on component selection and feature implementation - Partner with mechanical engineers to maintain wireless performance, achieve target form factors, and satisfy industrial design requirements - Perform power analysis and optimizations - Implement factory QA and automation processes for production board validation - Troubleshoot and root-cause hardware issues reported in the field - Iterate on and establish new engineering standards, tools, and processes - Help define the culture and processes of the engineering team You will have direct access to senior leadership, work with an ambitious and motivated team, and be challenged to iterate quickly and develop state-of-the-art products. Requirements: - 5+ years of experience developing consumer electronics-grade products - Experience with electronics design automation (EDA) tools; Altium preferred but not required - Strong understanding of RF circuit design principles and best practices - Experience with electronic test equipment and common RF measurement techniques - Experience selecting and qualifying components for new designs - Experience designing small form factor and battery-powered devices - Experience working with mechanical engineers and industrial designers to deliver user-centric products - Passion for understanding users and building life-saving features - Interest in tough technical challenges - Ability to take ownership and bring ideas from conception to production - U.S. persons only
