Salary: USD 215,000 - 235,000 / annual

Rent the Runway is seeking a Senior Director of Facilities and Automation to lead enterprise-wide facilities management, equipment maintenance, capital projects, and strategic program development across all RTR locations. This role combines senior leadership and hands-on project execution, establishing engineering and maintenance standards while ensuring safe, reliable, sustainable, and operationally efficient facilities and equipment. You will drive maintenance and facilities management excellence across multidisciplinary teams, providing safety-focused engineering leadership and establishing best-in-class design, execution, and management standards. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing enterprise facility condition assessment programs; ensuring compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and Factory Mutual standards; leading enterprise facility data management including CMMS and building records; advancing facility technology including IoT and building automation systems; establishing team priorities and engineering processes; managing annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets; overseeing comprehensive testing and commissioning plans (FAT, SAT); establishing performance metrics and continuous improvement routines; managing third-party vendor portfolios and SLAs; providing on-site oversight of capital projects from conception to completion; leading, developing, and retaining a talented team of engineers and maintenance technicians; investigating recurring faults and designing corrective actions; developing standardized maintenance programs across the network; and providing technical guidance on complex engineering issues. You will be equally comfortable with technical specifications and CAD design while navigating senior stakeholder relationships and executive communications. The role requires approximately 25-50% travel availability. REQUIREMENTS: - 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls, or equivalent experience in a relevant technical/engineering field; Master's degree preferred - 10+ years of progressive technical experience in manufacturing, warehouse, fulfillment, or industrial environments with demonstrated leadership and oversight of large-scale equipment and systems - Proven track record managing complex capital projects, budgets, and timelines; ability to influence without authority and lead cross-functional teams; PMP or PRINCE2 certification preferred - Experience leading equipment commissioning projects from specification to operational turnover, managing vendor performance and work quality - Proficiency with VFDs, servo systems, HMIs, and industrial networks - Subject matter expertise in material handling systems, automation equipment, and large-scale integrated operational infrastructure - Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Bluebeam, or equivalent) and familiarity with simulation tools (FEA, motion analysis) - Experience with Lean/Six Sigma, root cause analysis, TPM and OEE concepts; Six Sigma certification preferred - Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously - Proven track record of leading and developing teams - Experience with lean concepts, labor productivity analysis, safety/ergonomic/human factors - Experience building and managing OPEX and CAPEX budgets; strong financial acumen - Experience with multi-site operations and facilities management - Strong written and verbal communication skills; analytical and data-driven decision-making - Proficiency with data analysis tools like Looker, Power BI, SQL, and Excel - Commitment to safety, quality, and employee wellbeing - Background in fulfillment center operations, warehouse automation, or reverse logistics a plus - Ability to work flex shifts, hours, nights, and weekends as business dictates
