Roblox is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Engine Infrastructure team, which is responsible for the game-server fleet that powers live experiences on Roblox's edge infrastructure and regional cloud capacity. You will own the data strategy and analytics for the RCC (Roblox Cloud Compute) fleet, driving efficiency, observability, and reliability across multiplexing, ARM bursting, telemetry, resource allocation, and edge latency. Key responsibilities include: **Define Metrics & KPIs**: Own Engine Infra metrics, telemetry logging, and validation for the RCC fleet and edge compute. Establish and maintain KPIs for game-server efficiency, reliability, and player experience—including CPU and memory utilization, heartbeat signals, occupancy and multiplexing efficiency, crash and out-of-memory (OOM) rates, runtime error codes, and latency quality metrics (DataPing vs RakPing) that directly impact creators and players. **Transform & Visualize Data**: Access and process raw RCC and engine telemetry, build scalable analytics pipelines, and deliver clear operating views of the fleet. Convert per-instance, per-game, datacenter, and channel signals into dashboards and decision systems that enable Engine Infra to pack more players onto fewer cores, allocate CPU and memory correctly, and keep multiplexed and large-server processes healthy. **Design Experiments & Causal Inference**: Lead channel tests, hardware A/B tests, and causal analyses for multiplexing, ARM64 bursting, regional capacity, and edge latency. Measure trade-offs among efficiency, stability, and quality; separate host, container, engine, content, and release effects; and estimate player-experience impact (including latency-sensitive cohorts, not just global averages) so launches ship on evidence. **Cross-Functional Collaboration**: Partner with Engine Infra, Game Engine, Networking, Matchmaking, Infrastructure, Product, and TPMs, as well as teams like Creator Analytics and Growth, to debug ambiguous production issues and unlock new capacity and quality opportunities. **Shape Roblox's Foundation**: Influence how Roblox runs live experiences on owned edge and cloud hardware—driving a more efficient RCC fleet, better regional capacity, lower edge latency, and a platform that remains interactive as scale increases toward larger, denser servers. **Requirements:** - Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field with focus on large-scale system analysis - 4+ years as a Data Scientist with proven track record working on high-volume telemetry and product quality optimization - Expertise in processing massive, noisy datasets (e.g., crash logs, telemetry pings) and building scalable pipelines for reporting - Experience using first-principles reasoning to debug complex, ambiguous system failures without clear root causes - Demonstrated ability to present deep technical results to Engineering leaders and use data storytelling to prioritize work and future investment **Nice to Have:** - Direct experience with game engines or systems performance - Background in game development or real-time interactive systems - Knowledge of memory management, OS-level interactions, or network stack optimization
