Beamery is a jobs, skills and tasks data platform that helps organizations navigate talent lifecycle management through recruitment, mobility, upskilling, diversity, work architecture and workforce planning. The company's mission is to create equal access to meaningful work and careers for all. You will join the Data Science team as a Senior Data Scientist, owning core matching, recommendation and taxonomy mapping models that power Beamery's Data Foundry—the AI layer underlying all products. You will work closely with product engineering teams to bring these models to customers and be responsible for the complete model lifecycle: defining quality metrics, designing models, running scientific experiments, tracking technical and business metrics, and writing production code. Key responsibilities include: - Building, improving and owning matching and recommendation models (e.g., candidate-to-job matching, internal mobility recommendations). - Applying an evaluation-first mindset: constructing golden datasets from real recruiter and user decisions, defining quality metrics, designing and running robust scientific experiments, and tracking both technical and business metrics using LLM-as-a-judge and human feedback. - Writing clean, tested Python code using AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex) and carefully reviewing code from peers and AI systems to maintain codebase consistency, readability and safety. - Following recent research in LLMs, embeddings, recommender systems, explainability and model evaluation, bringing relevant ideas into the product roadmap. - Documenting work and presenting clearly to product, engineering and business stakeholders; contributing to research visibility through challenges, conferences and publications. The Data Science team is award-winning (1st in industry track, 2nd overall at ACM RecSys Challenge 2026) and combines LLMs, Transformers and embedding models with classic machine learning, always balancing quality, latency and cost. The role offers the chance to own core AI models used by forward-thinking organizations, work with the latest AI technologies, and collaborate with experienced data scientists, QA, platform and product engineers in a team that publishes and competes in the research community while shipping real products. REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum 2–4 years of experience as a Data Scientist, Senior Data Scientist or similar role in an AI startup or AI team with dynamic environments and varied use cases. - Strong experience with recommender systems, search, ranking or matching (learning-to-rank, scoring models, Gradient Boosting Trees, embedding models). - Fluency in evaluation: designing datasets and quality metrics (AUC, NDCG, precision, recall) and using LLM-as-a-judge and human feedback. - Strong foundation in NLP and GenAI, including Transformers, LLMs and embedding models (training or fine-tuning is a strong plus). - High-quality software development skills in Python (clean design, testing, packaging, maintainable code), practical CI/CD knowledge, and hands-on experience with agentic coding with judgment to assess when AI-generated code is appropriate. - Ability to simplify complex problems, work with ambiguity, and collaborate with data scientists, engineers, product managers and business stakeholders. - Master's degree or PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or related field. NICE TO HAVE: - Experience with explainable or conversational recommendations. - Experience in HR Tech, talent acquisition or workforce data. - Publications, open-source contributions or strong results in ML challenges (RecSys, Kaggle). Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
