Auxia is an agentic AI platform that helps enterprises deliver personalized 1:1 customer journeys. The Decision Agent determines the optimal message, timing, channel, and incentive for each individual user, processing 3B+ events/day, 25K+ queries/second, and 1B+ decisions/day at sub-100ms latency. The company serves global enterprises including Atlassian, The Guardian, Docomo, Comcast, Mercari, and MUFG Bank across email, push, in-app, and messaging channels. Founded by senior leadership from Google and backed by $23.5M from VMG Technology Partners, Stage 2 Capital, and MUFG Innovation Partners, Auxia is expanding its presence in the Japanese market.
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will solve business-critical problems across multiple domains and be trusted with some of the hardest challenges in the company. Your responsibilities will include:
• Helping customer teams understand their business problems and assisting AI PMs in creating scalable ML solutions for Japanese customers
• Architecting and advancing large-scale recommender and ranking models powering adaptive customer journeys
• Leading experimentation frameworks that bridge causality, personalization, and business impact
• Working with Data Science and Engineering teams based in Palo Alto, Bengaluru, and Tokyo to extend models into the core Auxia product for future global use-cases
• Translating learnings from Japanese customers into feedback, tooling, and documentation for future product roadmapping
• Bringing ideas from academia and industry research into production
The team operates with AI-native development practices using Claude Code extensively for code generation, architecture exploration, code review, debugging, and documentation. With ~30 engineers across the US, India, and Japan, there are no layers between you and production—you'll own systems end-to-end from design through monitoring. The culture emphasizes shipping weekly rather than quarterly, with ideas reaching production in days rather than months. The role is primarily onsite in Tokyo, as the company believes the best engineering happens in-person at this stage.
REQUIREMENTS:
• B.Tech/M.Tech/PhD or related degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field
• Proven experience building and shipping personalization, ranking, and recommendation models in production
• Strong working knowledge of causal inference and sequence architectures such as transformers
• Mastery of PyTorch/TensorFlow and the Python data ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy)
• Strong SQL skills against large-scale data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake)
• Strong applied experience with LLMs, information retrieval, and reinforcement learning
• Strong product sense with ability to balance research depth and real-world impact
• Entrepreneurial, ownership-driven mindset with ability to ship, iterate, and scale models rapidly
• Japanese language proficiency of JLPT N2 level equivalent or higher
• English working-level proficiency (required for daily collaboration with teams in Palo Alto and Bengaluru)
