CesiumAstro develops advanced communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Senior CAD Designer to join our mechanical engineering team in a hands-on, collaborative startup environment. In this role, you will provide comprehensive CAD design support throughout the product development lifecycle. Your responsibilities include creating and modifying 3D models and technical drawings from engineering sketches, notes, and documentation; ensuring all design documentation complies with program requirements, organizational processes, and industry standards; preparing accurate drawings with proper tolerances, dimensions, and manufacturing instructions; managing mechanical digital data files and drawings; identifying and resolving design issues; processing engineering change orders; and maintaining hardware structures in our Product Data Management system (SolidWorks PDM). As a small company, you will wear multiple hats and manage varied workflows involving CAD design, library management, design review, and related technical tasks. You will collaborate closely with the mechanical engineering team and work within a dynamic, cross-functional environment. REQUIREMENTS: - Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent, OR 4+ years of additional relevant experience if no degree - Minimum 5 years of experience as a CAD Drafter - Proficiency or expert knowledge in CAD tools; SolidWorks experience preferred - Experience generating and/or modifying product models, drawings, and documentation - Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and product specifications - Comfort with collaboration tools (MS Teams, Confluence, Jira) - Ability to work effectively under deadlines - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, refugee, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - Strong mechanical proficiency and understanding of manufacturing processes (CNC, 3D printing, etc.) and mechanical assembly techniques - Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and ASME Y14.100 (Engineering Drawing Practices) - Experience supporting design of electronic packages, ground structures, mechanisms, and/or composite structures - Aerospace or automotive electronics design background
