CesiumAstro develops communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We are seeking a Senior CAD Designer to join our mechanical engineering team in a dynamic, cross-functional startup environment. In this role, you will provide comprehensive CAD design support throughout the product development lifecycle. Your responsibilities include generating and modifying product models, drawings, and technical documentation using SolidWorks; ensuring all design documentation complies with program requirements, organizational processes, and industry standards; preparing accurate drawings with proper tolerances, dimensions, and instructions; identifying and resolving issues in CAD designs; managing and controlling mechanical digital data files and drawings; preparing and incorporating engineering change orders; and inputting data and managing hardware structures in our Product Data Management tool (SolidWorks PDM). As a small company, you will wear multiple hats and be comfortable with varied workflows involving multitasking between library management, CAD design, review, and related tasks. You will collaborate closely with the mechanical engineering team and work in a hands-on, interactive environment. REQUIREMENTS: - Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar field, OR 4+ years of additional relevant experience if no degree - Minimum 5 years of experience as a CAD Drafter - Proficiency or expert knowledge in CAD tools; SolidWorks experience preferred - Experience generating and/or modifying product models, drawings, and documentation - Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and product specifications - Comfortable with collaboration tools (MS Teams, Confluence, Jira) - Ability to work well under deadlines - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, refugee, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - Strong mechanical proficiency and understanding of manufacturing (CNC, 3D printing) and mechanical assembly techniques - Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and ASME Y14.100 (Engineering Drawing Practices) - Experience supporting design of electronic packages, ground structures, mechanisms, and/or composite structures - Aerospace or automotive electronics design experience
