In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will solve real financial problems for millions of customers by working on distributed systems that process thousands of transactions daily. You'll build resilient backend services handling sensitive financial data, create experiences that simplify complex financial products, and contribute to a modern engineering culture. Key responsibilities include: - Writing clean, reliable, and maintainable backend code using Kotlin (or transitioning from C#/.NET) - Designing and building scalable cloud-based systems within product-focused Agile teams - Collaborating with engineers, product managers, and designers to ship features - Participating in planning, technical discussions, and code reviews - Building well-tested services and contributing to continuous delivery practices - Taking ownership of work from development through production - Continuously learning and developing skills in a supportive environment The engineering culture emphasizes customer impact over unnecessary complexity, team success over individual heroics, operational ownership, and continuous improvement through honest feedback. Zopa operates a hybrid model with 2-3 days per week in the Manchester office (WeWork, Dalton Place). The office is dog-friendly. You'll have the option to work from abroad for up to 120 days per year (subject to right to work). The company values flexible working and work-life balance. REQUIREMENTS: - Solid hands-on experience with C# and willingness to learn Java or Kotlin - Strong fundamentals in software engineering - Demonstrated ability to write high-quality code with attention to clean design and testing - Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and comfort asking questions - Problem-solving skills and collaborative mindset - Clear communication and willingness to contribute to team decisions - Enthusiasm for modern engineering practices (CI/CD, cloud-native tools) - Experience with fintech or banking is a plus but not required; problem-solvers from all backgrounds valued
