Charm Industrial is a climate tech company on a mission to return atmospheric CO₂ to 280 ppm. The company converts excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil for permanent underground storage and carbon removal. Founded in 2020, Charm has scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, grown to over 100 employees, and operates locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Louisiana. The company has received carbon removal purchases from major customers including Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft.
As Senior Buyer, you will manage all procurement activities for direct materials, components, fabricated parts, and production-related services. Key responsibilities include issuing and managing purchase orders with attention to pricing, quantities, lead times, delivery requirements, and contractual terms. You will source and qualify new suppliers based on cost, quality, capacity, lead time, and technical capabilities, then negotiate pricing, payment terms, MOQ requirements, and other commercial agreements.
You will serve as the primary point of contact for supplier relationships and monitor supplier performance across on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and capacity. You will identify and mitigate supply-chain risks including long-lead items, sole-source components, capacity constraints, and material shortages. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Finance, you will review MRP/ERP requirements, analyze BOMs, and translate demand into purchasing actions to support production schedules.
Additional responsibilities include managing purchase order changes from engineering revisions and BOM updates, expediting critical materials to prevent production interruptions, tracking open purchase orders with visibility into delivery dates and supplier risks, and developing supplier lead-time and pricing information. You will identify cost-reduction opportunities through competitive bidding, supplier negotiations, and volume leverage, while supporting supplier development initiatives. You will evaluate supplier quotes, prepare commercial comparisons, and establish strategic relationships for critical components. The role includes supporting new product introduction and production ramp-up, maintaining accurate ERP records, ensuring compliance with company policies and contractual requirements, developing contingency plans for critical materials, and supporting inventory optimization by balancing production requirements, lead times, MOQ, cash flow, and inventory levels. You will provide management with reporting and analysis on spend, supplier performance, shortages, open orders, and procurement risks.
**Requirements:**
- Strong procurement and sourcing experience across manufacturing environments
- Strategic supplier management with focus on cost, quality, lead time, capacity, and long-term relationships
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills to address pricing, delivery, shortages, and supplier performance issues
- Cross-functional leadership working with Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Finance
- Ability to build and improve procurement processes that increase efficiency, visibility, accountability, and supply-chain reliability
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and comfort with multi-tasking in a fast-paced, ever-changing, ambiguous environment
**Bonus qualifications:**
- Start-up experience with ability to build and improve procurement processes, systems, and SOPs in fast-paced, evolving environments
- Contract manufacturing experience, including managing external manufacturing partners, supplier relationships, BOMs, RFQs, and production schedules
- Manufacturing-focused procurement experience with strong understanding of fabricated parts, machined components, raw materials, assemblies, and production requirements
- Experience managing rapid growth and changing priorities, including scaling supplier capacity, mitigating supply-chain risks, and supporting aggressive production timelines
- Technical and cross-functional experience working with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations to translate technical requirements into effective sourcing and purchasing strategies
