Datadog's Business Systems team drives efficiency across the organization through business process analysis, systems automation and integrations, AI agent and MCP development, and vendor/software review. The team is embedded in cross-functional initiatives across People, Finance, GTM, Legal, Recruiting, and Technical Solutions.
This Senior Business Systems Analyst role is not a generalist position. You will own a cluster of business functions end-to-end, acting as an internal product manager for your domain rather than processing inbound requests reactively. Two openings are available, each covering a different domain: (1) People, Recruiting, Legal or (2) Finance, GTM, Procurement.
As the role evolves alongside AI, you will leverage agentic tools for data aggregation and context gathering while remaining the critical human-in-the-loop layer—owning business context and product outlook, validating use cases, managing stakeholder relationships, and making judgment calls that agents cannot.
Key Responsibilities:
- Discovery and Scoping: Translate ambiguous asks from business stakeholders into well-defined requirements that Business Systems Engineers can build against. Surface cross-functional impact before engineering begins.
- Cross-Functional Visibility: Identify dependencies, downstream impacts, and integration considerations that requesting teams miss.
- Proactive Opportunity Identification: Develop deep domain knowledge to identify automation and AI opportunities before they become inbound requests, shifting the team from reactive intake to strategic partnership.
- Stakeholder Relationship Ownership: Serve as the primary point of contact for your domain, reducing ad hoc consultations that currently land on the team lead and senior ICs.
- Systems and Governance: Review system configuration, data integrity, and vendor fit within your domain; maintain clear documentation (process diagrams, system flows, user guides); ensure compliance with security and privacy standards (GDPR, SOX).
Requirements:
- Prior experience as a Business Systems Analyst or in a similar role, ideally within a high-tech or SaaS environment
- Experience owning a business domain end-to-end; comfortable operating like an internal product manager
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and manage relationships with senior leadership
- Comfortable using AI/agentic tools for data aggregation and context-gathering, while knowing where human judgment is still required
- Experience managing projects, particularly those involving multiple stakeholders and complex integrations
- Familiarity with security, privacy, and compliance standards (SOX, GDPR, SOC, ISO)
- 4+ years as a business system administrator (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, Workday, Zendesk) or a business systems analyst leading complex, cross-functional projects or similar role
- 4+ years managing multiple projects simultaneously and formulating business design documents
- Comfortable with deciphering technical documentation (e.g., API documentation) and translating business to technical requirements
- By domain:
- People, Recruiting, Legal domain: exposure to HRIS/ATS/contract lifecycle systems (e.g., Workday, Greenhouse) and the cross-functional dependencies between them
- Finance, GTM, Procurement, Technical Solutions domain: exposure to financial systems, deal desk, or procurement/vendor management tooling (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, Zendesk, Zip) and downstream data integrity implications
