Thndr is a fintech platform democratizing investing across the MENA region, with 5.5 million app downloads and processing over 1 billion EGP daily across hundreds of thousands of transactions. The Money Movements Squad handles all financial flows—deposits, withdrawals, settlements, and reconciliation—across Egypt and the UAE, with Saudi Arabia expansion planned.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate backend services that move money in and out of Thndr's platform. You own end-to-end correctness and reliability of these systems, ensuring every transaction lands in the right place, in the right amount, every time. You'll build and maintain integrations with banks, payment gateways, payment providers, and asset managers, handling real-world complexities like timeouts, partial failures, retries, and provider outages.
You'll raise the bar on quality and operational discipline through strong observability, sensible on-call practices, thorough testing, and systems designed to fail safely. You'll partner closely with finance and operations teams to ensure the same connectivity and rigor as Thndr expands into new markets.
The Money Movements team processes over 1 billion EGP daily and maintains an in-house ledger built on TigerBeetle, a financial database engineered for correctness and throughput. This is a sensitive system where uptime and correctness are non-negotiable—delayed settlements, double credits, or reconciliation failures directly impact real people's money.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong track record designing, shipping, and operating reliable backend systems in production at scale
- Deep expertise in distributed systems and understanding what it takes to maintain correctness under load and failure
- Comfort owning systems end-to-end from design through production and on-call; you care about code behavior at 3am
- Familiarity with the stack or confidence to learn quickly: Python, C#, .NET Core, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, RabbitMQ, Redis
- High bar for correctness and operational discipline; you understand the real consequences of mistakes
- Clear, candid communicator who can work effectively with engineers and finance/operations teams
- Strong debugging skills; able to find root causes in complex systems (e.g., finding a 50-cent discrepancy across a million transactions)
