FutureFit AI is an AI-powered workforce development platform on a mission to help more people get to better jobs faster and cheaper, with a focus on those facing barriers to opportunity. The company has grown from bootstrap to a JP Morgan-backed venture with 30–50 people across the US and Canada.
You will join the Engineering team as a Senior Backend Engineer focused on Integrations & Platform. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you design and build the backbone systems powering complex data integrations with government and enterprise partners. You'll own the full lifecycle: designing scalable backend systems, building bidirectional data syncs with sophisticated error handling, implementing async workflows, and establishing operational automation that removes manual work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, building, and maintaining deep bidirectional data integrations with government and enterprise partners, including those with limited documentation
- Building reliable async processing using queues, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency patterns
- Eliminating manual support work through backend services, Lambda functions, and internal tools that empower non-technical teammates
- Implementing structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting to surface issues before support tickets
- Debugging production systems and code you did not write
- Establishing reusable integration patterns and standards
- Collaborating with external vendors on API changes and coordinated deployments
Your first 90 days will follow a clear trajectory: Days 1–30 focus on learning the integration architecture and debugging tools; Days 31–60 emphasize owning and executing your first major automation initiative; Days 61–90 involve leading architectural discussions, mentoring peers, and communicating impact.
The tech stack includes TypeScript/Node.js, event-driven architecture (EventBridge, SQS, Lambda), MongoDB and PostgreSQL for data, CloudWatch Logs Insights for observability, and AWS infrastructure.
The role is fully remote with flexibility across the US and Canada, requiring at least 5–6 hours of daily overlap with the EST-based team. You may travel up to once per quarter for off-sites. The company values grit, continuous learning, and tackling challenges head-on over formal credentials.
Requirements:
- 5–8+ years of senior-level, hands-on backend, platform, or integration engineering experience, with a focus on reliable systems for complex external integrations
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
- Proven experience building and maintaining complex data integrations at enterprise or government scale (deep integration work, not just SSO, API configuration, or cloud deployments)
- Strong understanding of asynchronous workloads and processing
- Experience developing reliable, production-grade backend systems
- Strong debugging skills using logs, metrics, and tracing
- Proficiency with at least one SQL or NoSQL database in production
- Comfort working effectively in a fully remote environment
Bonus experience includes AWS (Lambda, EventBridge, SQS), frontend or full-stack development, financial/banking or complex data integrations, GraphQL API design, MongoDB or DynamoDB for async state management, legacy enterprise or government systems, and multi-tenant architecture.
