Salary: USD 165,000 - 180,000 / annual

You will join the Medical Data Platform team as a Senior Backend Engineer II - Data, designing, building, and maintaining the data foundation powering clinical products and workflows. This is a core software engineering role focused on the Medical Data Server, working with Python services, RESTful APIs, database architecture, and production operations. Key responsibilities include: - Building and evolving the Medical Data Server in collaboration with the Clinical Data team, designing and operating Python backend services and APIs for clinical data management - Partnering with Architecture and engineering stakeholders to design scalable clinical data models using healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7), establishing clear domain boundaries and contracts - Developing reliable batch and event-driven pipelines that ingest, transform, validate, and deliver clinical data across operational systems, data platforms, reporting tools, and downstream applications - Establishing automated validation, testing, reconciliation, and monitoring to ensure data quality and catch incomplete, inconsistent, duplicated, or incorrectly mapped clinical data before it affects users or systems - Developing maintainable transformation layers and curated datasets supporting clinical reporting, operational analytics, product functionality, and AI use cases - Implementing data governance practices including documentation, lineage, provenance, versioning, retention, and auditability to keep clinical data trustworthy and explainable - Collaborating cross-functionally with clinical, product, application engineering, architecture, data analytics, and AI teams to translate workflows and business needs into technical solutions - Leading design discussions, contributing to architectural decisions, reviewing implementations, mentoring engineers, and establishing engineering standards for clinical data development You will work with complex healthcare data including FHIR and HL7 standards to build reliable data models, integrations, and pipelines that make clinical information accessible and trustworthy across clinical applications, reporting, analytics, and AI-enabled workflows. Requirements: - 6–8 years of software engineering experience, including ownership of production services and databases - Strong experience building production Python applications and APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask - Experience designing and operating scalable ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines using batch, streaming, or event-driven patterns - Hands-on experience working with clinical or healthcare data, including strong understanding of FHIR resources, HL7 standards, terminology, and interoperability challenges - Experience designing normalized, dimensional, and domain-oriented data models with understanding of how modeling decisions affect data quality, usability, and system performance - Ability to independently lead complex initiatives, make sound technical decisions, and balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability Nice to have: - Experience with FHIR servers, clinical data repositories, electronic health record systems, or medical imaging and reporting workflows - Familiarity with healthcare terminology standards such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, or DICOM - Experience with cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and clinical reporting or AI-enabled healthcare products Note: This role does not provide visa sponsorship.
