Cyera is building the security operating model for the age of AI. The company provides a unified control plane that understands relationships between data, access, and behaviors across humans, systems, and AI—enabling businesses to accelerate AI adoption while maintaining security. Backed by leading investors and working with Fortune 1000 companies, Cyera is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join its CORE Engineering team.
The CORE Engineering team is a small, senior group responsible for internal foundations used by 200+ engineers across the organization. This is a high-impact, cross-organizational role where everything you build affects every service in production. You will own shared frameworks, services, and libraries; design and maintain application-level infrastructure; and solve problems that only exist at real scale and velocity.
Key responsibilities include:
• Design, build, and evolve core backend infrastructure with organization-wide impact
• Own shared frameworks, services, and libraries used across the company
• Build and evolve Cyera's NestJS service framework and shared modules
• Design and maintain application-level Kafka infrastructure and usage patterns
• Contribute to and maintain Cyera's TypeORM integration and internal fork
• Implement and enforce global exception handling and service standards
• Own production-grade backend components designed for continuous growth
• Design and evolve autoscaling mechanisms for async and event-driven workloads
• Debug and resolve complex production issues across services
• Improve database performance, scaling strategies, and migration safety
• Collaborate with DevOps and product teams on evolving infrastructure architecture
• Act as a technical partner to product teams building on CORE infrastructure
• Contribute to and improve the company's release processes
• Support teams with safe, optimized migrations during continuous growth
You will work closely with multiple product teams as requirements, scale, and constraints change. The scope, priorities, and scale challenges evolve constantly as Cyera grows. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys working close to the foundations, collaborating broadly, and owning complex systems in fast-changing environments.
Requirements:
• 6+ years of experience in backend or core systems engineering
• Strong experience building and operating large, evolving production systems
• Proven ability to work effectively in fast-changing, ambiguous environments
• Experience contributing to or owning shared frameworks, platforms, or internal tooling
• Solid understanding of CI/CD, production operations, and observability
• Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across many teams
• High sense of ownership and responsibility for system outcomes
Nice to have:
• Experience in high-growth startups or scale-up phases
• Background in CORE / infrastructure / internal engineering teams
• Kafka-heavy or event-driven architectures
• High-scale PostgreSQL environments
• Familiarity with NestJS, TypeORM, or similar backend frameworks
• Experience supporting large (200+), fast-growing engineering organizations
