As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will independently own your product workflow from initial design through deployment. You'll work on a lean, mission-driven team building a revolutionary product from scratch. The role demands urgency, precision, and a bias toward action—you'll commit code daily and see your work in production with live users regularly.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build scalable services and APIs for web applications, both new and existing features
- Architect and maintain robust backend systems, database models, and infrastructure powering the platform
- Analyze product requirements and produce high-quality, production-ready code with focus on reliability and performance
- Maintain system health, refactor code, and keep systems robust and resilient
- Jump into frontend code when needed to support the team and ship end-to-end features
- Take full ownership of your work with accountability for every detail
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners in product and design to build a world-class product
- Write clear specs to ensure product/code quality for stress-free deployment
- Drive large releases to production on a continuous deployment cadence
Tech stack: Typescript across all applications, NestJS API with TypeORM, Postgres, Redis, GCP, React, custom UI library built on shadcn, and Tailwind.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in backend development with some frontend exposure
- Experience working in a start-up environment
- Strong fundamentals in API design, database architecture, and distributed systems
- Expertise in Typescript/Node and backend frameworks
- Comfort with React and frontend technologies—ability to jump in and contribute when needed
- Intuitive understanding of creating performant, scalable systems that power delightful user experiences
- Strong communication skills to influence product direction and help collaborative visions come to life
- Extreme bias toward action and execution; you get antsy if not writing code and improving systems
- Must be based in the United States
