Currence is an AI-native market intelligence company focused on the energy sector, combining AI speed with expert research to deliver proprietary investment insights. The company is headquartered in London and New York. You'll join a product-focused engineering team of AI and full-stack engineers, working in a hands-on, delivery-focused startup environment. This is a generalist role where you'll wear multiple hats—implementing and running diverse projects including model training, data pipeline development, evaluation monitoring, data schema design, MCP server setup, and infrastructure maintenance. Your primary focus will be the AI backend (Python, Dagster) and data layer (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Iceberg). Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, evaluate, and deploy automations for agentic workflows, retrieval strategies, and LLM-powered data pipelines - Create evaluation frameworks for multi-step agent workflows - Inject proactive intelligence into data pipelines from ingestion through consumption - Build interfaces that enable internal users to inspect, steer, and trust agent behavior - Work closely with product, research, and commercial teams to define success criteria - Take ownership of the codebase, balancing code quality, security, and development velocity - Own and drive forward proofs-of-concept and solve broad technical challenges The tech stack centers on Python, SQL, TypeScript/React, and AWS. However, the team values strong core engineering principles and problem-solving ability over specific technology expertise—you're expected to be a polyglot who views technologies as tools. The role is based in London with an expectation of 3+ days per week in the Farringdon office. You'll be part of a small, fast-moving team with high ownership and impact. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years experience as a Software Engineer or equivalent - Demonstrated experience in data and AI engineering, specifically deploying AI applications in production (RAG pipelines, agent orchestration, performance monitoring) - Proven track record developing and maintaining production-grade software and systems - Desire to work in a small, fast-moving team with high ownership and impact BIG PLUS: - Experience with data pipelines at scale - Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS), Dagster, Kubernetes, and high-throughput background processing - Working understanding of energy and climate tech sectors
