Xaira Therapeutics is an AI-driven biotech startup focused on leveraging generative AI to transform drug discovery and development. The company develops AI models to design protein and antibody therapeutics against hard-to-drug molecular targets, as well as foundation models for biology and disease. Xaira is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area with additional offices in Seattle and London.
You will join the High-Throughput Protein Production team as a Senior Associate Scientist, playing a key role in automating, streamlining, and scaling protein production processes. This role combines hands-on bench expertise with automation strategy to develop cutting-edge workflows.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operate and optimize high-throughput protein production workflows for antibody modalities
- Implement and integrate automation platforms to ensure seamless workflow integration
- Develop and validate methods for automated protein purification
- Troubleshoot automation issues and improve efficiency and yield
- Stay current with advancements in automation and protein production technologies
- Collaborate across disciplines to optimize workflows
- Design a data management system to track protein production data
- Document automated protein production processes
- Analyze data and identify areas for improvement
- Prepare reports and presentations
You are detail-oriented, conscientious, and organized with a passion for drug discovery and developing novel treatments. You take pride in bench execution skills, thrive in fast-paced environments, and naturally collaborate across teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in protein expression and purification
- Strong operational understanding of automation, work cells, and protein science principles and methodologies
- Experience with high-throughput mammalian expression systems
- Experience with protein purification techniques (affinity chromatography, polishing steps)
- Proven ability to design and optimize protein purification protocols
- Experience with automated liquid handling systems and robotic platforms (preferred)
- Programming skills (Python, R) for scripting automation workflows (a plus)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
