The People & Interactions (P&I) team owns the communication and interaction layer, including the notifications pipeline, updates and communication infrastructure, email delivery, third-party platform integrations, and form-building functionality.
You will design, build, and ship AI-powered features in the communication and notifications domain. The team already ships AI features including Write with AI, Updates AI Summarizer, Quick Reply with AI, and AI Form Builder, with plans to expand significantly. Systems process tens of millions of events per day, making scale, latency, and reliability constant engineering challenges with real user impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and ship AI-powered features in the communication and notifications domain
- Architect and improve high-throughput async systems, driving performance and reliability at scale through lasting architectural improvements
- Work across the stack using modern technologies to create delightful user experiences
- Collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional teams to ship customer-facing AI experiences
- Shape technical direction: API design, AI model integration patterns, and evolution of the event-driven architecture
Requirements:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production features at scale
- Proficiency in server-side and client-side development (TypeScript, Node.js, React, or similar technologies)
- Experience building and operating distributed, event-driven systems and background workers at scale
- Strong observability mindset—ability to trace latency or reliability issues end-to-end using logs, metrics, and traces
- Drive engineering excellence, reliability, and performance across fast-moving codebases
- Strong communication skills, team mindset, and empathy
Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or AI/ML models into production software (prompt engineering, streaming APIs, cost/latency tradeoffs)
- Experience building notification systems or third-party platform integrations at scale
- Familiarity with GraphQL APIs, ideally in a federated architecture
- Comfortable working across both backend systems and product-facing features
