Nearmap is seeking a Senior Actuarial Analyst to serve as the actuarial voice in insurance rate filings and regulatory submissions. This is a customer-facing role, not a back-office position, reporting into Insurance Product and working alongside the regulatory affairs owner.
You will own and defend filing evidence by coordinating with cross-functional teams to produce filing materials for each Nearmap attribute and score used in insurance rating, including model memos, validation metrics, and actuarial exhibits. You'll document state-by-state model validation requirements and ensure Nearmap consistently produces exhibits that satisfy NAIC checklists. You'll transform model outputs into evidence such as validation metrics, coverage rates, distributional analysis, bias and fairness testing, and state-by-state breakdowns. You'll lead analytical responses to regulator objections, work with the regulatory affairs owner on strategy and framing, and join calls with state departments of insurance to explain methodology and results directly. You'll also manage SERFF accounts and maintain records of all filing materials and exchanges.
You will work directly with customers by advising on which attributes are filing-ready and which carry approval risk, building supporting materials for GTM teams and customers ahead of time. You'll partner with carrier actuarial and pricing teams on how Nearmap data is best implemented in their rating plans, and collaborate with pre-sales to support data tests and lift analyses that demonstrate predictive value.
You'll also work to make each filing cheaper than the last by building reusable validation templates and exhibits so each new carrier program costs less effort, and by establishing product requirements for new products and scores before they ship that makes them "filing ready" immediately upon release.
Nearmap uses AI and computer vision to derive property attributes and scores for insurance rating. The role involves navigating the regulatory landscape where state departments of insurance review the use of such data in carrier rates, answering predictable questions about ground truth and goodness-of-fit metrics, and addressing novel regulatory objections.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of property and casualty actuarial experience with real exposure to pricing, ratemaking, or rate filings
- ACAS or FCAS credentialing strongly preferred; candidates with substantial ratemaking and filing experience will be considered
- Experience preparing actuarial exhibits for rate filings and responding to regulator objections
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or a related field
- Ability to explain carrier-led rate filing processes to non-actuaries clearly
- Comfort with predictive model output, including GLMs, gradient boosting, and associated validation statistics
- Experience working with large claims and exposure data using SQL, R, or Python
- Ability to write technical documentation that regulators will accept and that minimizes objection rounds
- Client-facing skills and composure on calls with carrier actuarial leadership
DESIRABLE:
- Experience at an actuarial consultancy or directly at a carrier supporting rate filings across multiple states and carriers
- Experience with catastrophe or property peril models, or with imagery-derived and AI-derived rating variables
- Prior regulator-side ratemaking review experience
- Familiarity with SERFF and practical mechanics of how filings move
