Fudo is a Latin American restaurant management software startup combining hospitality industry expertise with technology. The company serves thousands of restaurants across Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil with management software and mobile applications, with particular strength in Chile and Argentina.
The Payments team is a multidisciplinary group spanning Product, Business, Engineering, and Design. The team's mission is to enable restaurants, bars, cafés, and other food service establishments to collect payments from customers—both in-person and online—simply, quickly, and frictionlessly through integrated technology solutions. This includes embedded payment terminal solutions, tap-on-phone capabilities on generic mobile devices, e-commerce payment solutions, and other payment mechanisms integrated into Fudo's core management system.
You will design, develop, and maintain backend services primarily in Ruby (non-Rails architecture) while understanding the full technical stack including React and Flutter frontends. The role requires deep knowledge of database optimization (indexes, query performance), HTTP caching headers, server options (Unicorn vs. Puma), data stores (Redis, PostgreSQL, MongoDB), and asynchronous request handling. You will work with payment gateways, banks, and third-party APIs to process high-volume transaction flows with low latency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and maintain Ruby backend services
- Integrate with payment gateways, banks, and third-party APIs
- Ensure the system handles high transaction volumes efficiently with low latency
- Implement security best practices for sensitive data handling and fraud prevention
- Write automated unit and integration tests as part of CI/CD pipelines
- Mentor team members and conduct code reviews while maintaining production velocity
- Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting strategies (OpenSearch, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, CloudWatch) for high availability and rapid anomaly detection
- Monitor metrics and alarms to respond quickly to incidents

REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced student or graduate degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Informatics, or related field (required)
- Minimum 2 years of backend development experience
- Solid knowledge of API development, design, and usage; familiarity with JSON:API, OpenAPI, and JSON Schema standards is a plus
- Knowledge of Internet protocols, primarily HTTP, plus TCP, UDP, WebSocket, and common web development protocols
- Knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL
- Git proficiency beyond standard commands (pull, add, commit, merge, push); understanding of clean commit history
- Linux development experience is a plus
- Experience at payment gateway, fintech, or related companies is a plus
