Salary: USD 65,000 - 95,000 / annual
Knox Systems operates the largest Federal and DoD managed cloud, building and securing cloud and AI environments for the U.S. government's most critical missions in national security, public safety, and essential services. As a Security Operations Analyst (Tier 1), you will be part of a unified team that monitors performance, availability, and security from a single queue—eliminating silos and enabling faster response.
You will work fixed shifts (either weekday or four-day rotation) monitoring alerts and deciding whether to escalate, contain, or close incidents with documented reasoning. Your responsibilities include reviewing security and performance alerts, handling customer requests and tickets, following established runbooks for containment, and escalating to senior analysts when needed. You'll work alongside network and security issues simultaneously, gaining visibility into the full operational picture.
The role prioritizes active intrusions and suspected compromises first, followed by service-affecting outages, degradation/early warnings, and customer requests. You will not be pulled away from live alerts to finish routine tickets. Shift handovers are documented in writing to enable seamless continuity.
Knox will train you on cloud security monitoring, SIEM tools, detection tuning, FedRAMP controls and evidence practices, incident containment, network troubleshooting, and internal runbooks. The typical path to Tier 2 is around three years.
Required qualifications: CompTIA Security+ certification (or equivalent) or ability to earn it within 90 days of starting; hands-on IT operations, help desk, or network operations center experience; good judgment on escalation and comfort working independently on overnight shifts. No degree, prior corporate experience, or active security clearance required, though prior clearance is a plus. U.S. citizenship (sole citizenship only) is required due to federal government contract compliance; you must pass a government background investigation.
