Salary: USD 150,000 - 190,000 / annual

Octant Bio is a clinical-stage biotech company developing protein misfolding disease correctors using their Navigator platform, which combines high-throughput synthetic biology, generative chemistry, and AI/ML. You will join as a Scientist in Cheminformatics to guide assay development and extract chemical insight from high-throughput data. Your primary focus will be the OpenADMET effort, transforming high-throughput ADMET datasets into actionable chemical intelligence for both Octant's internal drug programs and the open science community. Over your first year, you will expand into broader platform work. Key responsibilities include: partnering with analytical chemists and biologists to develop high-throughput ADMET assays with rigorous data quality assessment; designing experiments and analyses that convert assays into robust, quantitative DMPK measurements scaling to hundreds of thousands of compounds; guiding compound and building-block selection to balance scientific value with experimental feasibility; developing data and computational infrastructure to process assay results at scale; translating OpenADMET capabilities into platform tools for program teams; and collaborating across machine learning, software engineering, biology, chemistry, and automation disciplines. You will apply chemical intuition and statistical rigor from assay development through compound selection to large-scale analysis. The role emphasizes building analyses and tools that scientists can independently run, with a strong open-science component. Required qualifications: PhD in Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Chemical Biology, Computational Chemistry, or related field; 3–5 years of research experience (industry preferred, but exceptional recent PhDs encouraged); expertise in organic/medicinal chemistry with DMPK knowledge and structure-property reasoning; practical analytical chemistry knowledge (HPLC, SFC, LC-MS); strong statistics and experiment design fundamentals; fluency in Python and/or R with cheminformatics stack proficiency (RDKit, pandas); experience collaborating with experimentalists and data scientists; excitement about open science; flexibility with changing priorities; and strong problem-solving abilities. The role is based in Emeryville, California, with onsite work required.
