Salary: USD 31 - 40 / hourly
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Satellite Operator to join its Operations team in San Jose, CA. This is a full-time, onsite role (5 days/week) responsible for executing satellite operations procedures, monitoring the health and safety of the on-orbit satellite fleet, and ensuring optimal performance and longevity of satellites in space.
Key responsibilities include: executing satellite operation procedures and monitoring fleet health; collaborating with engineering teams across disciplines to execute operation plans and maintain service continuity; analyzing telemetry data and satellite health reports to assess performance and identify issues; troubleshooting and resolving anomalies using established procedures and technical expertise; executing satellite maneuvers including orbit corrections and station-keeping; and supporting commissioning of new satellites into the fleet.
The role participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation (approximately one week per month) as a core responsibility. You will work with complex spacecraft systems, ground stations, and communication infrastructure.
Required qualifications: Associate degree or equivalent experience; strong communication and teamwork abilities; excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Nice-to-have skills include: operations experience with spacecraft or ground stations; understanding of satellite subsystems (power, propulsion, communication, payload); familiarity with satellite operations industry standards; experience with Python, Julia, or similar scripting languages.
Compensation includes hourly pay ($31–$40), equity grant, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), disability and life insurance, three weeks paid vacation, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave. ITAR/EAR compliance required.
