OpenAI's Trust, Safety & Risk Operations team is seeking a Safety Response Operations Lead to manage a regional team handling the company's most sensitive and high-priority safety cases. This is a hands-on leadership role combining people management with direct casework contribution.
You will lead a team of Safety Response Analysts while personally handling 20–30% of complex, high-risk, or high-visibility cases. Responsibilities include managing regional operational outcomes (utilization, SLA adherence, backlog health, quality benchmarks), serving as the first line of escalation for your region, and driving continuous improvement in workflows and automation.
Key accountabilities: lead and coach a regional team ensuring high performance and decision quality; own regional operational metrics and SLA targets; handle and oversee the most complex cases; contribute directly to investigations, enforcement decisions, and regulatory escalations; partner cross-functionally with Product, Policy, Legal, Investigations, and regional stakeholders; identify emerging risks and translate frontline insights into actionable recommendations; and provide calm, credible leadership in a 24/7, high-pressure environment.
The role operates as part of a global 24/7 safety operations center, requiring flexibility for rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call leadership responsibilities.
Ideal candidates bring 8+ years in Trust & Safety, Risk Operations, Investigations, Fraud, or platform integrity, plus 4+ years of direct people leadership or senior operational ownership. You should be a strong decision-maker in ambiguous, high-risk environments; skilled at communicating complex safety decisions to Legal, Policy, and leadership; experienced with AI tools and automation for operational workflows; and comfortable influencing cross-functional partners without direct authority.
