Aalo Atomics is developing factory-fabricated microreactors to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power globally. The Safeguards and Security Lead will establish and lead the Idaho Falls safeguards, physical security, access-control, and nuclear material security program supporting research, testing, and operations activities.
Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safeguards and security programs, plans, procedures, and risk assessments aligned with DOE authorization basis and future regulatory requirements. You will establish graded physical-protection measures for site boundaries, protected areas, buildings, vital equipment, and nuclear material consistent with assessed threats. The role encompasses access authorization, badging, visitor control, escorting, key and credential management, and alarm response coordination.
You will establish nuclear material security and control requirements for receipt, possession, use, movement, storage, inventory, and transfer, coordinating with technical owners on material control and accountability. Responsibilities include developing response plans for intrusion, theft, diversion, sabotage, insider threats, and security-system degradation. You will coordinate security interfaces with DOE, Idaho National Laboratory, local and federal law enforcement, emergency responders, and future regulators.
Additional duties include protecting security-sensitive and controlled information in coordination with information-security functions, conducting drills, performance tests, assessments, and investigations, and managing corrective action processes. The role has authority to stop work, restrict access, isolate areas, or escalate concerns when protection, authorization, or response capability is inadequate.
This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Nuclear Operations with direct CEO access for significant security or nuclear material concerns. You will also oversee physical security for the Austin, TX manufacturing and office facilities.
