Sweetgreen is seeking a Risks & Claims Manager to oversee workers' compensation and general liability claims across its restaurant portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director of Risk + Safety, you will manage the end-to-end workers' compensation claims program, directing the carrier's adjusting service from first report of injury through closure while ensuring timely, compliant reporting across all jurisdictions. You will review and challenge reserves, track incurred costs, drive resolution and settlement within an established authority framework, and pursue subrogation and fraud referrals. You will oversee the carrier's handling of general liability claims (slip and fall, bodily injury, property damage), managing intake, notice, reserves, and defense strategy against the program's deductible structure. A key responsibility is building and partnering with the People Team and Restaurant Operations on return-to-work and modified duty programs to reduce lost-time exposure, while serving as a clear, consistent point of contact for injured team members. You will manage carriers, nurse case managers, and other claims vendors, coordinate with defense counsel on litigated claims, and support annual insurance renewals with loss runs and exposure data. You'll work in partnership with the Customer Experience team to directly settle incidents and claims. Additionally, you will maintain claims data and reporting, surface trends by location and injury type to inform safety and program decisions, and ensure compliance with jurisdiction-specific reporting, OSHA recordkeeping, and Medicare Secondary Payer requirements. The ideal candidate has 5+ years managing workers' compensation claims and ideally general liability claims in-house, at a carrier, or at a third-party administrator, with multi-state and California experience strongly preferred. You should have working knowledge of workers' compensation systems (reserving, return to work, medical management, litigation, settlement) and general liability claims handling. Experience directing or closely overseeing carrier-provided claims and adjusting services and managing claims vendors and defense counsel is essential. Strong analytical skills and comfort with claims data, loss runs, and reporting tools are required. High-growth, multi-unit retail, restaurant, or hospitality experience is a plus, as are relevant certifications (California Self-Insurance Plans, WCCA, WCCP, AIC, ARM).
