Salsa is a leading embedded payroll provider that partners with software businesses to build industry-specific payroll solutions. The company operates as a large-scale money mover in the US and Canada, handling employer funds, worker payments, and tax authority transfers. Managing fraud and credit risk is mission-critical to the business.
As Risk Operations Lead, you will build and scale Salsa's risk operations function from the ground up. You'll manage a team of Risk Analysts, design effective processes and controls, and make judgment calls on ambiguous cases while turning those decisions into repeatable frameworks. Your responsibilities include leading, coaching, and developing the analyst team; serving as the escalation point for complex risk decisions; building and improving SOPs, workflows, and escalation paths; and monitoring key metrics such as fraud rate, loss rate, and approval rate.
You'll work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Operations to implement controls, improve tooling, and scale operations responsibly. The role requires deep expertise in fraud and operational risk in payroll and payments, including ACH timing, reversals, funds flow, faster payroll implications, and credit exposure. You'll own fraud and operational-risk expertise for the team, help refine policies, and operate effectively during high-severity incidents.
The ideal candidate has 4+ years in risk, fraud, trust and safety, payments, or payroll risk operations, with proven experience managing and developing analysts in queue-based or case-management environments. You should have a strong background in fintech, payroll, or embedded finance; demonstrated ability to build SOPs and escalation structures from scratch; and strong cross-functional collaboration skills. Experience with risk engines, SQL, early-stage startups, and high-volume ACH/EFT processing in US and Canada is valued.
