Serval is an AI-native automation platform that builds intelligent agents to transform enterprise operations. Founded in early 2024 and backed by Sequoia Capital, Redpoint Ventures, and others, Serval is trusted by companies like Fox, Notion, Perplexity, Vercel, and Brex to automate high-volume operational work across IT, HR, Finance, Security, Legal, and Engineering.
You will join as Revenue and Technical Accounting Manager, reporting to Francisco Meyo, VP Controller. This is a build role with three core responsibilities:
**Revenue Accounting:** Own all revenue inputs to monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including revenue entries, waterfalls, deferred and unbilled rollforwards, and revenue flux review. Review new and amended contracts to identify performance obligations, determine transaction price, and allocate standalone selling price. Reconcile ARR, billings, and revenue at each close. Own accounting for consideration payable to customers, service credits, and capitalized commissions under ASC 340-40. Write and maintain revenue recognition policy as the company adds multi-year ramps and usage-based pricing, and draft decision-ready memos on complex revenue questions.
**Billing and Collections:** Turn signed contracts into accurate, on-time invoices across platform fees, ramped deals, and usage-based consumption. Own AR aging, dunning cadence, and escalation paths. Partner with Sales and Deployment when payments stall. Report DSO and cash forecasts weekly. Stand up usage billing with Engineering and RevOps, defining what the meter measures, how it reconciles to invoices, and how disputes get resolved. Review non-standard billing and payment terms with RevOps and Legal before signature.
**Systems Design:** Design and build agentic workflows that take signed contracts, extract pricing and non-standard terms, generate invoices, and draft revenue entries for review. Define the workflow end-to-end: where agents do the work, where people review, controls and audit trail, and exception paths. Partner with the accounting systems lead on data flow from Salesforce and usage meters into billing and Rillet (the ERP).
Additional responsibilities include audit readiness (documenting quote-to-cash and key controls, owning revenue and AR side of first audit) and payroll and benefits operations (reconciliations, enrollment changes, provider invoices, journal entries, with automation over time).
You will work closely with the Head of Finance, RevOps, Sales, Legal, Engineering, the accounting systems lead, and auditors. Serval runs on Serval, and so will you—this role involves designing and building the automated workflows that power the company's own revenue and billing operations.
**Requirements:**
- Big 4 foundation: assurance or accounting advisory at a Big 4 firm, Senior to Senior Manager level, with 5–8 years of total experience. Direct Big 4 candidates welcome; in-house experience is a plus.
- Active CPA license (required).
- Deep, hands-on ASC 606 experience from audit or in-house, ideally with multi-year, ramped, or usage-based contracts. Revenue ownership in industry is a plus, not required.
- Owned billing, collections, and AR for enterprise customers, or reviewed them as an auditor (billing accuracy, cutoff, collectability, allowance for doubtful accounts).
- Builder mindset (required): have built apps, scripts, or automations, or are eager to build agentic workflows. Advanced Excel or Sheets and working knowledge of SQL, Python, or AI tools will help you start fast.
- Systems thinking: can design a workflow end-to-end, including data, controls, and exception handling.
- Have written technical memos auditors accepted, or reviewed them as an auditor.
**Nice to Have:**
- Owned revenue recognition at a high-growth SaaS, AI, or infrastructure company.
- Usage or consumption billing at scale (Stripe Billing, Metronome, Orb, Maxio).
- Experience with Rillet or another modern ERP or revenue system.
- Built apps, agents, or automations used by others.
- Consideration payable to customers, SSP analysis, or ASC 340-40 commissions experience.
- First audit, SOX, or IPO readiness experience.
- Exposure to Serval as a customer, user, or builder.
