Salary: USD 210,000 - 260,000 / annual
Anthropic is hiring an experienced Research Operations professional to embed with the leadership of the Reinforcement Learning organization, the team responsible for training Claude to be more capable, reliable, and aligned.
You will serve as a high-leverage operator supporting RL org leadership, shaping how leaders spend their time and ensuring priority decisions reach decision-makers quickly. Reporting to the Manager of Research Operations, you will work daily with RL org leaders and their teams to remove friction and amplify impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own leadership's time by shaping weekly priorities, setting agendas focused on high-leverage decisions, and cutting non-critical work so leaders stay focused.
- Triage incoming requests: resolve what you can independently, route appropriately, and thoughtfully escalate the rest.
- Enable wise decision-making by providing leaders with what they need to decide quickly, communicating decisions to collaborators, and tracking commitments through completion.
- Anticipate problems by surfacing resourcing gaps, technical bottlenecks, and stalled action items before they become blockers.
- Scale leadership voice through durable written materials for org-wide announcements, programming, and planning sessions.
- Improve organizational processes by identifying recurring friction and connecting it to people who can fix the underlying systems.
- Serve as a thought partner, offering honest and candid counsel to leaders, including respectful disagreement.
You will need technical fluency to engage substantively with researchers—you should be able to follow discussions about RL training runs, read evaluation results and form reasonable hypotheses, and hold your own in technical conversations. You don't need to have trained a model yourself, but you must understand the model training process and have the depth to work closely with leading researchers.
You will also need strong writing skills to translate dense, jargon-heavy material into summaries and plans that technical collaborators can act on; an eye for data visualization and dashboard improvements; exceptional follow-through and attention to detail; the ability to push back on senior stakeholders and influence without direct authority; comfort with ambiguity and fast-changing environments; and high integrity aligned with Anthropic's mission.
Anthropicis a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco working on reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The company operates as a single cohesive team on large-scale research efforts, viewing AI research as an empirical science with emphasis on communication and collaboration.

- Direct chief of staff or senior leader support experience
- Time in research institutions, labs, or research-heavy organizations
- Track record of anticipating colleague and leader needs and acting proactively
