Salary: USD 94,000 - 147,950 / annual
Chobani's Research and Innovation department is seeking a Senior Scientist to lead product development and innovation across healthy beverages and snacks, with a focus on dairy-based platforms beyond yogurt. This role sits at the intersection of food science and commercialization, requiring someone who can drive projects from conceptualization through full market launch.
You will execute R&D plans and strategies aligned with company objectives, designing and conducting experiments with rigorous data collection and analysis. You'll plan and execute development work at lab and pilot scales, designing qualification tests for new products and supporting modifications to existing ones. A key responsibility is developing new analytical measurements to support novel product designs and processing technologies.
You will manage technical development projects end-to-end, including budget and timeline management, and lead the documentation and communication of projects from initial concept to commercialization. You'll work directly with plant processing and production teams to ensure trial runs and start-up operations succeed, and communicate project requirements, recommendations, and status to internal and external stakeholders. Compliance with Chobani's safety procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices is essential. Travel (approximately 25%) is required.
Chobani is a purpose-driven food company founded in 2005, now part of a larger portfolio including La Colombe coffee and Daily Harvest ready-to-make meals. The company manufactures yogurt, oat milk, creamers, and RTD beverages across facilities in New York, Idaho, Michigan, and Australia.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum B.S. in Food Science, Dairy Science, or related life science degree (advanced degree strongly preferred)
- 5+ years of food industry experience required, specifically in dairy beverages
- Extensive knowledge of ingredients (stabilizers, alternative sweeteners), flavor development, product processing, and stability
- Background in process and product development and commercialization of food processes (required)
- Proven track record leading product development projects, including timeline development/management, testing/trials, operational launch, and scale
- Familiarity with basic research tools and statistical analysis
- Milk filtration and aseptic processing knowledge preferred; dairy UHT aseptic processing a bonus
- Innate curiosity for understanding complex food systems from physical and chemical perspectives
- Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building something from the ground up
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Self-starter able to work in fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Willingness to travel 25%
- Ability to maintain clean and safe manufacturing environment within all facilities
