Supabase is seeking a Release Engineer (SRE) to join the Release Engineering team within EngOps. This role focuses on production operations expertise, ensuring Supabase's deployment systems and control plane operate reliably at scale with clear SLOs and error budgets.
Key responsibilities include owning the reliability of deployment and release systems; standardizing and instrumenting fragmented deployment workflows to create trustworthy pre-production signals; driving disaster-recovery readiness by making environments reproducibly deployable from scratch; building and operating health and SLO monitoring using synthetic testing; reducing mean-time-to-detect and mean-time-to-recover for deploy-related incidents; participating in on-call rotations and leading blameless postmortems; improving deployment observability and auditability; and documenting operational procedures including break-glass paths and runbooks.
The role also involves defining and tracking SLAs, SLOs, error budgets, and DORA delivery metrics with meaningful alerting; ensuring deployments fail safely when health checks degrade; hardening access and break-glass workflows for incident response; and partnering with product engineering and platform teams to align release practices with reliability targets.
Ideal candidates have 5+ years in SRE, production operations, platform engineering, or release engineering; have operated production systems at scale with on-call experience; are fluent in SLAs, SLOs, error budgets, DORA metrics, and observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager); have led incident response with tools like incident.io, PagerDuty, or Opsgenie; operate confidently on AWS in production; are comfortable with infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi, Terraform) and Kubernetes; script and automate to eliminate toil; communicate clearly across teams; thrive in async, globally distributed environments; and navigate ambiguity iteratively.
