Salary: USD 96,350 - 153,040 / annual
Divergent 3D is seeking a Quality Systems Engineer to join their manufacturing operations team in Torrance, California. The company is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs and supports leading U.S. aerospace and defense companies, specializing in advanced systems design, manufacturing, and assembly.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring quality and reliability across products and processes while working closely with cross-functional teams. Key responsibilities include:
**Audit Management & Corrective Actions:** Lead internal audits of processes to identify improvement opportunities, host third-party and customer audits of the quality management system, and manage system-level corrective and preventative actions including root cause analysis and effectiveness evaluation.
**Data Analysis & Process Improvement:** Monitor key performance indicators (yield, defect rates, on-time delivery), track and analyze nonconformance trends, develop dashboards and reports for real-time quality visibility, and lead initiatives to improve process efficiency and reduce defects through data-driven analysis.
**Inspection & Quality Controls:** Establish and maintain inspection criteria aligned with customer requirements and industry best practices, ensure inspection methods meet capability requirements through Gage R&R and Cpk analyses, and implement robust process controls and standardized inspection procedures.
**Quality Planning & Deployment:** Develop and implement scalable quality control plans, deploy new inspection technologies, and support process validation for new or modified manufacturing processes.
**Cross-functional Collaboration:** Collaborate with teams to integrate quality requirements into product and process development, mentor quality team members on best practices, and drive cross-functional problem-solving initiatives.
The role is based in a dynamic manufacturing environment with exposure to production areas, quality and material labs, and office settings. Some travel (max 10%) may be required for customer audits, supplier evaluations, or off-site quality initiatives. The position requires frequent standing, walking, or light lifting up to 25 pounds.
**Requirements:**
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology subject to US export controls
- Demonstrated experience in quality initiatives focused on process improvement, defect reduction, and inspection optimization in manufacturing environments
- Proficiency in implementing and managing PPAP, FMEA, and root cause analysis (RCA)
- Knowledge of advanced inspection methods including CMM programming, Gage R&R, and sampling techniques
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data, identify trends, and drive data-informed decisions
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers
- Clear communication and documentation skills for presenting quality metrics and insights to stakeholders
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent quality-focused experience
- Experience in regulated industries (automotive, aerospace, defense) with familiarity in AS9100, ISO 9001, or IATF 16949
- Hands-on experience conducting and/or hosting customer and registrar audits
- Experience in statistical process control (SPC) and process capability analysis (Cpk)
- Six Sigma Green Belt or higher, or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification
- Familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing or automated inspection systems
